Comfort During Pregnancy: Here's How It's Possible

If you’ve already been pregnant before, you will have a very good idea of just how uncomfortable things can get. If this is your first pregnancy then you have this all to come! Thankfully, the first few months are usually free from any discomfort; you might just have to deal with some bouts of morning sickness. However, as you get closer to your due date and the baby gets a lot bigger, you will find that doing the simplest of everyday tasks, like putting your shoes on and walking to the corner store, start to get very tiring and uncomfortable.

There’s no need to worry, though. There is plenty that can be done to combat your discomfort. You might not be able to get rid of certain aches and pains completely, but you will certainly be able to take the edge off them so that you can go about your usual routine. To try to do everything you can to be comfortable during your pregnancy, you should read on.  Here are some of my top tips!

Drink Plenty Of Water

Firstly, it is necessary to be as hydrated as possible throughout the pregnancy. After all, you are now drinking for two! All of this water will ensure that your kidneys can continue to function properly, and it will also aid your baby’s kidney function. Plus, drinking enough water should prevent you from getting constipated, which is a common complaint of many pregnant women. Generally speaking, it’s best to aim for ten glasses of water a day throughout the pregnancy. Most of these glasses should be drunk between meals so that you don’t suffer from too much indigestion. Water is always best, and you should try to stay away from caffeine as much as possible. Not only can it affect the baby’s growth, but it will also make you need the toilet more and can even dehydrate you.

Eat Small Meals To Try To Beat Morning Sickness

Are you having a hard time with morning sickness? Don’t worry; many women do and this is usually nothing to be worried about. The changes in hormone levels that occur during the early stages of pregnancy often cause this. One way to try to beat it is to eat five or six small meals a day, rather than three larger ones. This won’t overload your stomach. Try not to go for too long without any food either as this could lead to more nausea. Eating a little dry food before you go to bed, such as crackers or bread, can prevent the sickness hitting you during the night as well.

Don’t Eat A Large Meal Just Before Bedtime

Another way to combat sickness through the night is to make sure that your last main meal of the day is at least a couple of hours before you go to sleep. Eating a large amount of food just before you head to bed might leave you feeling nauseous. It’s also worth leaving some crackers by your bedside so that you can have a quick midnight snack if you do wake up hungry.

Prop Yourself Up With Pillows In Bed

Lots of women know that the most uncomfortable part of the final trimester is trying to sleep. One the baby has grown considerably in size, your bump will be quite large. This might mean that you need to find a new sleeping position while in bed. Some women find that using pillows strategically in the bed really helps. For instance, you could place them underneath you so that you can sleep in a seated position. This might be the most comfortable position for you towards the end of the pregnancy.

Listen To Your Body

It is critical that you listen to your body while you are pregnant. If you feel tired or fatigued, then it is a sign that you need to try to get more rest. Make sure you do rest up whenever you feel tired. Simply sitting down and taking the weight off your feet could make a big difference, but in some cases it may be necessary to try and take a nap if you are able to. Another way to listen to your body is to react to hunger. If you do feel hungry, make sure you grab something to nibble on. Your body and the baby might need the energy!

Consider Better Seating Options In Your Living Room

Are you starting to find your living room’s sofa quite uncomfortable? You aren’t the only pregnant woman to find that this happens. Because of the changes in your body, you might need to find a new sitting position in order to get comfy. Some women find that our bean bag lounger is better for them to lounge on as it gives them the chance to stretch out. Plus, they’ll be keeping their feet up, which is better for their circulation. You might even want to simply put a footstool in front of your usual seat. Once your feet are up, you can stretch your body out further, which can make your muscles feel a lot more relaxed.

Try To Maintain Good Posture When Walking

Many pregnant women often complain of back pain. This is due to the stress that the baby puts on the lower back. As there is more weight for the body to carry at the front, the spine can often bend forward, which puts excess strain on it. One way to try to stop the pain and aching bothering you too much is to try to maintain good posture when you are walking. It may be difficult to do, but walking with a straight back will make a world of difference.

Don’t Stand Up For Too Long

Even though walking with a straight back should help you overcome some of your back pain, it’s still good to try to sit as much as possible. Standing for long periods with a large bump will be placing a lot of strain on your legs and feet. This could cause varicose veins and puffy, swollen feet. If you sit down, then this will relieve some of the pressure and help to improve the circulation of blood to your legs and feet.

Try Not To Sit With Crossed Legs

When you are having a sit down, make sure you don’t cross your legs. Even though this can be a comfortable seated position for most women, it won’t be doing your circulation any good when you are pregnant. Sit with straight legs to prevent puffiness in your feet and varicose veins.

Wear Baggy Clothes

You will also feel a lot better if you wear baggy clothes as much as possible. You’ll be able to buy maternity wear from most clothes shops. As well as being baggier, maternity trousers feature an elasticated waist, so they won’t be too tight on your bump. As maternity wear is very stretchy, it will stretch as your bump grows, so you won’t need to keep on buying larger sizes as you get bigger. One of the big benefits of wearing maternity wear is that the baggy clothes will help you cool off a lot easier than tight garments. That’s because the warm air that so often gets trapped between layers of clothing will be able to escape a lot easier.

Consider Orthotics For Your Shoes

If you start to feel your feet get sore, there’s no need to worry. This is down to all the excess weight that you are now carrying while pregnant. If you find that the pain in your feet gets too much, it could be worth getting some orthotics to put in your shoes. These are small supports that will help your feet to take all of the extra weight a lot better. You’ll be able to buy different kinds, including arch supports. It could be worth speaking to a doctor about the ones that could benefit you the most.

Try To Relax When You Feel Kicking

When you start to feel the baby kick inside you, it can be such a magical experience. However, it can also be quite painful as well for some women. The best way to make the baby stop doing this as soon as possible is to simply relax. The baby is only kicking you because it is changing its position. If you get stressed about it and tense up, it will cause the baby some slight distress, and it may continue to flinch about inside you.

Take Long Baths

If you do ever get really achy, it could be time to run a warm bath. Being in the warm water can be very relaxing, and it will give your muscles the chance to loosen up. If you light a candle and use some aromatherapy, you might be surprised at just much you can relax. It could be the only time you are truly comfortable in your whole pregnancy!

Hopefully, all of these useful tips help you find a bit more comfort in your pregnancy.
