3 Differences Between Mom And Dad's Parenting Style

Although it may seem that parenting styles depend more on personality and experience than on gender, psychology agrees that the way we raise children is based on whether we're in the role of a mum or a dad. These styles are not completely different, but we can distinguish some main differences between them. Below you'll find three most significant ones.

1. Feelings vs. deeds

When mums tend to be more feelings-oriented, dads usually pay attention only to actual needs. Many kids spend hours talking to their mother about issues and emotions, while fathers typically suggest taking action. It may be because of male practicality and even some traits connected with the evolution – males were responsible for thinking, hunting and feeding the family then. This difference is visible when it comes to spending time with the kids. Mums are more likely to watch movies with their children or spend time at home, while dads would like to do some sports activities, like visiting preschool playgrounds or walking in the forest.

 2. Different vs. similar

It often happens that while mums want to allow their children to do what they want and choose their path in life, dads have a tendency to encourage the kids to follow in their footsteps. For example, an ex-soldier dad would like his son to take up this profession, too, to fulfil his own ambition. Apparently, women don't have such a way of thinking and let the kids decide more freely.

3. Problem vs. solution

While mothers try to discuss the potential problem deeply, dads are more practical, and they're more likely to suggest instant solutions. Maybe it's because women have a natural tendency to analyse or overthink, they are also more sympathetic. Men, on the other hand, are more action-oriented and prefer to keep going.

Although there are some significant differences between the two genders' parenting style, it's possible to combine them and make a perfect balance between feelings and deeds, discussing problems and finding solutions. Every parent wants the best for their children and will do everything to form a happy family.
