Maintaining A Strong Relationship In Lockdown

2020 was one of the hardest years many of us have ever faced. From being stuck in the same four walls every day to the risk of losing our jobs; it has been a stressful and scary time and many people have fallen by the wayside and struggle with their mental and physical health.

One thing that has taken a beating for many of us around the world is our relationships. For those not living together it can be hard to maintain a long distance relationship for over a year. And for those of us living with our partner, the stress of being under eachother’s feet every day has caused issues.

If you are in a relationship and you are living together during lockdown, it is so important to work on your relationship and keep it strong. Today we want to offer some helpful tips and advice to keep your relationship ticking over smoothly this year.

Communicate honestly

Honesty is always the best policy - and many of us have a tendancy to not reveal our true feelings because we worry about conflict. If you are worried or stressed about something, or your partner has said something that upsets you, the best thing you can do is be open and honest and share this information. Arguments and conflict are essential parts of any relationship and even though it may be difficult at first to handle; it is so important for you to push through and share. Both of you will feel better by sharing your feelings and it will make your bond stronger because you don’t have to hide things from one another. Short term annoyance is nothing compared to a strong lasting bond.

Be intimate

Intimacy is so important in a relationship and we aren’t only talking about sex. As well as sex, it is important to consider those small touches and kisses that show your partner you care. A stroke of their arm when they walk by, a caress of their cheek, or a kiss on their head or hand all add up and make your partner feel loved and valued.

Make time for date night

If you have been looking into divorce solicitors but you don’t want to give up on your love yet; make time for an at home date night. Even if you have kids, make sure to feed them early and set them down with a movie one night a week so that you can enjoy cooking and eating a romantic meal as a couple. Dates are so important and they will give you a chance to catch up and speak to eachother, and find out how eachother is feeling. Share cooking and cleaning duties and open a bottle of wine and talk. Enjoy eachother’s company, and you’ll soon see a difference.

When in lockdown it can be hard to get along all the time and the stress can get too much. But with these tips we hope you can strengthen your relationship and maintain that loving bond in 2021.
