Fun Movie Night Snacks For the Family

You can't have a good family movie night without some delicious snacks! If you're tired of overly-buttery popcorn and soda, give one of these recipes a go. The kids are sure to love trying a new snack. They might even help you out in the kitchen if you're lucky.

1. Homemade Pizza Rolls

Ah, yes. Everyone's favorite snack — pizza rolls. Instead of tossing a bag of those soggy pre-made ones in the microwave, consider making your own. They'll taste better than anything you can find in the freezer section. Plus, you can customize them by adding different fillings. Simply roll out some pizza crust and add your favorite toppings. Then, roll the entire thing into one big log, slice into one-inch sections, bake them for 10 minutes and serve with marinara or ranch.

2. Ice Cream Sundaes

There's nothing more fun than making your own ice cream sundae just the way you like it. Let the kids choose their own toppings and display them all in bowls to create a sundae bar. Gummy worms, candy bars, and pretzels are all fair game. Drizzle your creation with peanut butter or chocolate sauce and top with whipped cream for a decadent dessert that's sure to make movie night a smash.

3. Candy Bar Blondies

Can't decide between cookies and brownies? Whip up a batch of these candy bar blondies. This fun spin on the classic blondie recipe is sure to be a hit with the kids, especially if you mix in their favorite candy bars. Save a half cup of candy to press into the top of the bars before popping them in the oven. Bake for 40 minutes, serve warm and enjoy every bite or ooey gooey deliciousness.

4. Homemade Icees

If your kids had their way, they'd probably drink icees for breakfast, lunch and dinner and, if you're honest, you might even do the same. Those slushy, sugary drinks are insanely refreshing on hot summer days and the perfect accompaniment to any movie night. Luckily, you can make your own at home in less than 10 minutes. Simply add water, a Koolaid packet, ice and sugar to a blender. Blend until smooth and serve.

5. Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites

Of course, if you want the kids to sleep at all after the movie is over, you may want to make a healthier, less sugary snack. That's when these chocolate peanut butter banana bites come in handy. Simply slice a banana into one-fourth inch thick rounds, spread peanut butter onto one slice and top it with another. Freeze them until they harden. Then, dip each one in melted chocolate and refreeze. Eat them straight out of the freezer during intermission.

6. Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Spice up movie night with grilled bacon jalapeno wraps. These tasty poppers marry savory Italian sausage and maple bacon with jalapenos' more intense spice. Cream cheese also helps balance out the spiciness. Cook on your grill over high heat or bake at 450 degrees until the bacon is crispy. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the sausage cooks all the way through and then dig in.

7. Salted Caramel Popcorn Bars

Skip the buttery bags of popcorn and make these salty-sweet treats instead. Full of gooey marshmallow, chocolate chunks and sticky caramel, this recipe relies on airy popcorn to replace crisped rice. The best thing about this snack is it only requires five ingredients and 15 minutes of your time. Plus, you don't even have to fire up your oven. You will, however, need some muscles to mix everything together so feel free to enlist your kiddos to help.

8. Cheeseburger Nachos

Movie night wouldn't be complete without a few bags of chips. Make all that crunching worth your while by preparing some cheeseburger nachos. Simply cook up some ground beef and layer it onto some nachos. Bonus points if they're Doritos. Then, add ketchup, mustard, pickles and your family's other favorite hamburger toppings. You might even make some nacho cheese sauce for dipping. Serve hot and get to munching.

9. Puppy Chow

If you're short on time and everyone's eager to press play, opt to make some puppy chow. This reliable snack mix is sweet, crunchy and straightforward and you can easily emerge with a bowl of the stuff in just 10 minutes. Just melt some peanut butter and chocolate in a saucepan, drizzle over the rice squares and coat with powdered sugar. Store in an airtight container in the unlikely case of having leftovers.

Get Creative

When it comes to whipping up snacks for family movie night, creativity is key. Put a fun spin on family favorites by adding different ingredients and experimenting with various flavors. Ask your kids to taste test along the way and be open to trying new things. You might just surprise the whole family and create the best movie snack ever.
