How To Protect Your Infant From Mosquitos

When the warmer months arrive, usually mosquitos come with them. They may be small, but they can carry deadly diseases with them, many of which can even be fatal. One single mosquito bite is capable of giving someone anything from the Zika virus to Dengue fever.

As adults, we can apply bug spray or swat the mosquitos away. However, babies may not be able to protect themselves in the same way. Therefore, protecting them from mosquitos should be a top priority. Here are are some of the best ways to keep your baby safe from mosquito bites.

Consider Calling a Professional

In some cases, you may have a full mosquito infestation, which requires professional pest control. One single mosquito can lay over 100 eggs. It’s easy to see how an infestation can quickly spiral out of control.

Rather than accepting mosquitos attacking you every time that you leave your house, you should take action by treating the issue.

A professional will work to rid your home of the common breeding grounds of mosquitos and protect you and your family from their itchy welts.

Use Screens

Protecting your windows with screens is an incredibly effective way to keep your baby clear of mosquito bites. In addition to adding screens to the windows, you should also consider draping a mosquito net over their bed.

That way, you can rest assured that your baby won’t be attacked while they are sleeping.  This is especially important if you live in a place where there are ample amounts of mosquitos.

Use Patches

Many sprays are considered too strong and toxic for the fragile skin of a new baby. They can result in painful rashes and irritation.  The next best choice is to use baby mosquito patches.

They are placed on your baby’s skin and will safely repel mosquitos from attacking them.  You can find color patterns that may appeal to your baby’s eye. Just make sure they don’t tear them off and put them in their mouth!

Use Traps

Electrical mosquito traps are an effective way to naturally kill mosquitos.  The light attracts the mosquitos and zaps them as soon as they come into contact with the trap.

It’s vital that you keep these traps far from the reach of your baby, however, as you don’t want your baby getting zapped!

Keep Mosquito-Repelling Plants Around

Believe it or not, mother nature has several plants that naturally deter mosquitos from flying near them. Citronella and chrysanthemum are two plants that you can repel insects with.

However, it’s important to note whether your child may have an allergic reaction to house plants. In the case that they do, you should remove the plants from inside the house.
