5 Fantastic Tips For Hiking During Pregnancy

 

Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t immediately mean that you need to stop doing what you love. If you’re someone who absolutely loves the great outdoors and keeping active, then pregnancy doesn’t equate to these having to stop. Sure, it can be a bit difficult to combine pregnancy and heavy activity. But it also doesn’t mean that you need to push yourself to the limits like you were before pregnancy. 

There are plenty of tips out there for staying active during your pregnancy and how to keep safe. These are some helpful tips for hiking while pregnant. Just please keep in mind to consult your midwife or doctor before embarking on anything like this. All bodies are different and each one handles pregnancy differently.  

Pick out an easy hiking trail

It’s best to not do anything crazy, just search for the easiest hiking trail that you can. Preferably one that is easy to get out of in case there are any sort of emergencies. Just look into some easy trails beforehand. So, if possible, try and look for one that has a little incline, safe, and flat. It’s important that the entire hike, you’re going to feel comfortable.

Listen to what your body is telling you

The second trimester tends to be the best for most mothers. This is the time where constant nausea has ended, energy levels are moving up, and positivity is coming back. Pregnancy throws a lot of curveballs at you. You’re going to be the only one who knows your body best. Just don’t try to beat yourself up if you feel like you’re struggling. Just take a lot of breaks, or even just end the hike if you believe you’re pushing yourself far too much. If you find yourself not exercising at the level that you usually do, just remind yourself that your body is going a little human. This takes a lot of energy to do, and you should be proud of yourself!

Be prepared

It’s best to have a lot of stuff packed for your hike or walk. Be comfy

It’s best to try to keep this hike as comfortable as possible. You’ll want to start eating a bit differently a couple of days before the hike just to make sure that you don’t experience any acid reflux. But this should also include picking out your most comfortable pair of clothes, wearing hiking boots, keeping your blood sugar in check, wearing support socks and a good sports bra. It’s important to try to find ways to be as comfortable as you can during this hike.

Just keep it simple

If you were someone that was very active before the pregnancy, just know that you can go back to this once the pregnancy is over. Pregnancy creates a lot of changes for the body, and they should be praised. You’ll just want to make sure whatever activity you’re currently doing, just be sure it’s simple. You don’t want to push yourself too much. Just make sure you’re having fun with what you’re doing.
