Zooey Deschanel Talks Pregnancy On Jimmy Kimmel
By Allison Takeda for Us Magazine
Sushi and coffee and cheese, oh my! Zooey Deschanel can't wait to give birth — not just because she wants to meet her little son or daughter-to-be, but also because she wants to indulge in all the foods you're not supposed to eat when you're pregnant.
The adorkable New Girl star, 35, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show on Thursday, March 26, and dished all about her pregnancy diet, which excludes some of her favorite things in life.
"You can't eat so many things when you're pregnant!" the first-time mom-to-be lamented to Kimmel. "If I was vegan, I'd just be like...ohhh."
(Incidentally, Deschanel's famous big sister, Bones actress Emily Deschanel, is vegan — and pregnant. "I work with a nutritionist to make sure I have the protein that I need," the star previously told Us.)
She & Him singer Zooey, for her part, is craving some nice soft brie. Talking to Kimmel on Thursday night, she wistfully listed all the foods she looks forward to eating again after she and fiance Jacob Pechenik welcome their first child together.
"You can't have sushi. You can't have cheese that tastes good," she explained of pregnancy. "You can have a little bit [of coffee], but I would have, like, four cups a day. And now I can have a half cup, which is a joke! It's a total joke!"
Also on the no-no list, of course, is booze. "You can't have alcohol," she said. "I miss that, I like wine."
For now, though, Deschanel is eagerly anticipating motherhood. Asked whether she's expecting a boy or a girl, the (500) Days of Summer star replied, "We are gonna be surprised. It's more fun. Make it into a game!"
