How Soon Is Too Soon To Dream About Summer?

It’s no secret that winter can be dull and boring. This season has its perks, but you might already be thinking ahead to summer. The warmer months can make you happier — and who doesn’t want to feel more joy? Thankfully, you can start preparing for summer now.

Here are a few ways to look forward to summer when it’s cold outside.

1. Consider Fitness Goals

Let’s start by saying there’s nothing wrong with your body. If you don’t have any fitness goals, you can definitely skip this part. However, it’s common for people to exercise more and eat healthier now so that they’re more confident come summertime. These adjustments can help you feel your best while you enjoy the season.

You don’t have to complete a “one-month beach body challenge” to boost your self-esteem. It’s better to incorporate working out and cooking meals on your own terms. At the bare minimum, your efforts will help shake your winter funk.

2. Plan a Vacation

Did you know that planning a vacation makes you happy? It’s actually true that we experience more joy leading up to a trip than we do when going on a trip. That’s a win for type-A people everywhere.

COVID-19 has been unpredictable. There’s no telling how this summer will go. As a result, you should keep your vacation close to home. A “staycation” can be a great way to explore your own city or town. If you want to visit your family, you might need these extra months to coordinate everything safely.

It’s also enjoyable to plan your dream vacation — even though you might not be able to travel this year. Use this time to map out everything. Where would you stay? Are there activities you’d want to try? What restaurants look good? You can then reference this research when you actually go.

3. Schedule Particular Activities

If you usually participate in different summer activities, you should see whether you can schedule them now. It’s never too early to figure out your plans over the next few months. As a result, you won’t feel so rushed when May rolls around.

You could sign up for camp, buy tickets to a show or schedule a kayaking class. Don’t hesitate to try something new, either! There are many fun things to do during the summer. If you spend time researching them beforehand, you’ll be able to have new experiences throughout the season. Plus, you’ll stay occupied with the planning.

4. Learn a New Skill

The warm weather will be ideal for adventures. You should prepare so that you can enjoy them to the fullest. It doesn’t make much sense to take up snorkeling in June when you could already have the necessary skills under your belt. In other words, you can spend your time using your new ability rather than learning.

There are a few summer sports you can practice during winter and enjoy during summer. They include:

●     Swimming

●     Golf

●     Baseball

●     Tennis

●     Biking

Look for ways to practice these interests indoors. You can also use mild weather days to exercise outside. Get your friends or family together in a socially-distanced way so that you’re both active and social. This effort will definitely pay off come summertime.

5. Do a Little Cleaning

If you’re looking for things to do during winter, you can always get your house ready for summer. It’s the perfect time to purge any clutter that built up over the past year. You’ll have a lot less to do in the warmer months — which means more time outside.

You can break this project up over a few weeks. This way, you won’t feel so overwhelmed. Make sure to create a cleaning checklist to help speed everything along. Don’t forget to clean a little bit every week after you finish to maintain your spotless home.

6. Go Outside More Often

Summer means more time outside, right? You can get a jump start on being active in the winter. It might be chilly, but you should strive to be active year-round. You should be able to transition to summer without a hitch as a result.

There’s no shame in being a couch potato. That said, you should supplement your Netflix binging sessions with some outdoor time. Try going for a quick walk after dinner. You can also consider fitting in a run before you head to work in the morning. This physical activity will ensure you have no trouble getting into the swing of things during summer.
