6 Popular Uses For Facial Fillers

In addition to facial symmetry, a gorgeous complexion is considered to be an important marker of beauty and attractiveness. Many of us strive to attain glowing, even, and clear skin by undergoing injectable treatments to correct irregularities or highlight aspects of the face, such as the lips and cheeks. Having younger-looking, smoother skin can be as easy as getting a few injections, and the use of injectables has been growing in the United States for years. Each patient has his or her own unique reasons for choosing aesthetic treatments, and there’s no shame in experiencing them as a form of self-care or to improve confidence. With that in mind, the Cassileth Plastic Surgery & Skin Care team notes some of the latest uses for fillers, such as Juvederm®, in Los Angeles.

1. Lip Augmentation

The era of lip fillers is here. Treatments known as “tweakments” have become increasingly mainstream in recent years, as people have sought to imitate the plumped-up lips of celebrities and actors. Whether you’ve always wanted to make your naturally thin lips bigger or are happy with the size but simply want to add some extra flair, fillers are an effective option. The Juvederm® and Restylane® filler collections have products specifically designed for creating lusher, larger lips, or reshaping them. Options include Juvederm® Ultra and Restylane® Silk for plumping, the lighter Juvederm® Volbella formula for filling in small areas or adding subtle definition, and the newest, softest lip filler, Restalyne Kysse.

2. Nasolabial Folds

The creases on the lower part of the face between the sides of the nose, leading downward to the corners of the mouth, are called nasolabial folds. They get more pronounced with time as sun damage causes the collagen and elastin fibers to weaken, fat below the skin begins to decrease, and skin naturally becomes thinner and loses volume, causing lines to become more pronounced. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Juvederm® and Restylane® decrease the depth of these creases by adding volume below the skin.

3. Re-Sculpting Cheeks

In general, proportionally fuller cheeks are considered by many to be a symbol of beauty. Pinched-in, flattened cheeks due to volume loss can make you look older, while an overly round, baby-faced appearance on adults is often considered less appealing and may make some people look heavier than they actually are. Dermal fillers can improve both of these concerns: Juvederm® Voluma can add just enough volume to make the apples of the cheeks gently rounder or can be used to imitate bone by adding structure and creating more defined, chiselled cheeks.

4. Hand Rejuvenation

The hands tend to visibly age faster than other areas of the body. This is because in addition to natural aging processes, we use them every day, so they are in constant motion and subjected to virtually nonstop exposure to external elements like sun, wind, and water. The hands can often develop a thin, papery texture. As the skin becomes looser, thinner, drier, and more transparent, the veins and bones are more noticeable, and wrinkles appear. Radiesse® is commonly used for hand rejuvenation. This filler contains calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres and not only makes the skin look more supple, but also kick-starts gradual collagen remodelling to improve the skin’s structure over time.

5. Addressing Scars

Many of the different types of fillers can be used to temporarily improve the look of depressed or indented scars. Once injected beneath the visible signs of past injuries, trauma, and even acne scars, the filler material lifts the healed skin to make the surface appear more even and smooth.

6. Enhancing the Chin

The chin is another popular area for enhancement. Injectors often use Juvederm® Voluma for augmenting this area to create a more proportional, stronger chin while reducing the appearance of jowls or downturned corners of the mouth.
