Treat Your Dog With These Treats At Christmas

Owning a dog is like having a furry child who is always smiling and happy to see you when you come home. A dog can swiftly become a huge part of a family, and when you have one of your own you will want to treat them in the best way possible to keep them healthy.

Speaking of keeping your dog happy and healthy this year, we have some brilliant ideas for treats you can make your furry friend that include ingredients that will keep them strong throughout their lives. Here are some fun treat ideas to make for your dog this winter.

Turmeric pastries

One of the easiest and least messy treats you can make for your dog this winter are turmeric pastry roll ups. Turmeric is a brilliant ingredient to add to not only your dog’s diet but your own. It is a natural anti-inflammatory and also has pain fighting qualities, making it perfect for older dogs who’s joints may be stiff. Feeding your dog treats with turmeric will eventually help them to become more mobile and happier.

What you’ll need:

  • One sheet ready to roll pastry

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 3 tbsp cheddar cheese

  • 2 tbsp turmeric

Start off by preheating the oven to 180C and greasing a baking sheet. Roll out your pastry, spread with butter and sprinkle over the cheddar and turmeric evenly. Roll the pastry back up to form something similar to a cinnamon roll. Cut 2 inch pieces of this and place on the sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.

Roasted sweet potatoes

Did you know that sweet potatoes and butternut squash are great for your dog? Not only do they provide vitamin C and vitamin A, but they also help to strengthen the immune system and aid digestion.

  • 4 large sweet potatoes

  • Olive oil

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 1 tsp honey

Preheat the oven to 220C and grease a baking sheet. Peel and dice the sweet potatoes and add your oil, honey and turmeric. Spread evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes. Allow to cool completely when you take them out and bring with you on dog walks as a healthy snack!

Peanut butter cupcakes

Peanut butter is one of the best treats to give your pooch to keep him healthy and happy. Peanut butter is not only sweet and delicious - but it is full of both protein and healthy fat to fuel play time or long walks. These cupcakes are the best treats to give on a special occasion or even if you are going for a hiking holiday this summer. You can pimp them up with the addition of some Pet-Ness CBD oil for an extra health kick too!

  • 1 cup peanut butter

  • ½ cup oats

  • ½ cup flour

  • ½ cup honey

  • ¼ cup grated carrot

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 100g cream cheese

Preheat the oven to 200C. Mix all of the ingredients except cream cheese  in a large bowl until completely combined. Scoop into cupcake moulds and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Once cooled, pipe some cream cheese over the top to imitate frosting and voila!
