Best Makeover Tips from the Experts
This week, our beauty blogger contestants were tasked with giving someone a makeover, and who better to act as guest judge than Cassandra Bankson. The vlogger and model, who spent years struggling with cystic acne, is the star of Cassandra to the Rescue, an upcoming series on Allure's YouTube channel, in which she gives women with skin issues life-changing makeovers. Here, she shares her best tips for giving yourself a new look.
Take a bath. "The first part of making yourself over is relaxing and making yourself feel good," says Bankson, who loves Lush Cosmetics bath bombs. "It's like a party in your bathtub. There are colors, scents, glitter, and explosions!"
Prime your face. "Start with primer, even if you're not going to put on foundation. It's like a real-life Instagram filter. It blurs imperfections," she says.
Trade in your black mascara. "Dark blue or purple mascara really brightens up your eyes, no matter what color they are," says Bankson. "People won't look at you and think, She has blue lashes; they'll look at you and think, 'Oh my God, her eyes sparkle and pop." (She likes NYX Color Mascara in Blue.)
Try a cat eye. "Using liquid liner to give yourself a cat eye is so dramatic," says Bankson, who admits she still occasionally struggles to make the wings even but says the only real trick is practice. "People are like, 'Eyes are supposed to be sisters, not twins,' and I'm like 'I'm sorry; I want them to be identical.'"
Experiment with your lip color. "The best way to transition to wearing lipstick if it's not something you usually wear is with lip crayons. They're very pigmented but also sheer enough that your natural lip color shows through.
